A Message from the Atlanta Parents and Community
for Atlanta Public Schools
You are cordially invited to Meet & Greet with your elected officials:
6th Annual Legislative Reception
Tuesday, February 16, 2016
Center for Leadership and Learning (APS Building)
130 Trinity Avenue.
Atlanta, GA 30303
Guest Speaker: State Superintendent Richard Woods
(free parking in APS deck, Garnett Street entrance)
For many years a few parents attended Lobby Days and PTA Day at the Capitol, through these visits we learned that parents and community members located in the city were not attending the legislative session or were not engaged in issues related to education, youth and children. Parents across the city from organizations like SNAPPS (SW & NW Atlanta Parents and Partners for Schools, NAPPS (North Atlanta Parents for Public Schools), SEACS (SE Atlanta Community for Schools), CASE (Community Advocates for Special Needs), ACET (Atlanta Community Engagement Team) and PAT (Parent Action Team), decided to merge to create Atlanta Parents and Community for Atlanta Public Schools in an effort to bring the gold dome into the community.
In an effort to demystify the process and to engage more constituents in the legislative process, the event was birthed. The Atlanta Public Schools building was chosen as a neutral location and an effort to partner with APS around education legislative issues and concerns. Since that time we have informed, educated and empowered thousands of parents and community members.
